Q2: How do I install SHAZAM?

If you purchased SHAZAM after March 2010 all you need to do is run the setup program with Local Administrator privileges because your license information is embedded in your personal installation package by the SHAZAM Licensing and Packaging Services when your download was created on the SHAZAM Store. Consequently, no unlock code is required and installation is generally troublefree.

If SHAZAM was supplied to you prior to April 2010 and you experience trouble installing or when entering your license information, or you would simply prefer to now use a prelicensed downloadable copy of the latest updated version of SHAZAM, then please register on the SHAZAM Store and contact us citing your license information so that we can arrange for a replacement copy to be issued to you for download from the SHAZAM Store.

If you experience trouble with your CD and do not wish to use the download version then you may need to uninstall and reinstall SHAZAM in cases when the entering of Registration information did not work the first time.

Step 1: You must get into a command line session by opening the Command Prompt and changing to the SHAZAM program directory. e.g. CD C:\SHAZAM
Step 2: Type SHAZAMD $clean
Step 3: Type EXIT to get out of the command line session
Step 4: Go to the Control Panel, Settings, then select Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features and highlight any SHAZAM applications and uninstall them
Step 5: Rerun the original SHAZAM CD and reinstall
Step 6: Install Service Pack 1 followed by the latest update from the Updates page
Step 7: After installation, run SHAZAM and if prompted then enter the Unlock Code information provided to you

Note: During installation if your login account does not have Local Administrator privileges then Windows will prompt you for the username and password of a Local Administrator in order to install SHAZAM. If you do not have Administrator access, you should speak to your System Administrator for assistance.

A mistake sometimes made is to use SHAZAM Windows Professional Edition after only purchasing the SHAZAM Windows Standard Edition. To use the Professional Edition, you will be required to purchase a Professional Edition License. To purchase a Professional Edition License, please visit the SHAZAM Store.

Q3: How do I operate SHAZAM?

One of the great benefits of SHAZAM is that it is both powerful and easy to use. In SHAZAM, the two methods of running SHAZAM commands are Batch Mode and Interactive ("Talk") Mode.

Batch Mode requires the typing of simple but powerful command statements to execute SHAZAM analytical procedures using the SHAZAM Command Editor. Click the Run button on the toolbar or press the F5 key on your keyboard to execute SHAZAM commands.

In Interactive Mode SHAZAM analytical techniques are executed either as:

1) Command Driven: by typing commands providing an interactive command driven experience; or
2) Menu Driven: by selecting the analytical technique from the menu or executing a SHAZAM Wizard for the technique you are interested in and following a step by step process using your mouse to select variables, customize options, set restrictions, compute confidence intervals, hypothesis tests, perform diagnostics or forecast etc (Professional Edition Only).

Q4: What operating systems does SHAZAM Version 9 work on?

SHAZAM Version 9 may not operate on operating systems sold after Windows XP. SHAZAM Version 9 is no longer supported and users should upgrade to the latest version.

Q5: How do I uninstall SHAZAM?

Simply uninstall SHAZAM from the Control Panel from the Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features applets. All files installed by SHAZAM will be removed. Any command or data files created by you will remain, even if they were created in the SHAZAM Program directory.

Q6: How do I get into a Command Line Session?

To enter into a Command Line Session run the SHAZAM Command Line Environment from SHAZAM Programs folder on the Start Menu. Alternatively, open a Command Prompt from the Start Menu, change to the SHAZAM Program folder and run SHAZAMD.EXE.

From within the SHAZAM Environment a Console Session operates exactly the same as the Command Line Environment but supports Windows features like unlimited scrolling, cut, copy and paste as well as saving the results to a text file. A Console Session may be entered from the WINDOW menu or by pressing F11 on the keyboard.

Q7: How do I save the graphs in SHAZAM created with the GRAPH command?

Within the SHAZAM Environment you can either copy and paste them to a word processor, spreadsheet or other graphics capable program or you can save them as a PNG, TIF or BMP file. If you wish to do it from the GRAPH command then you will need to specify the DEVICE=GIF OUTPUT=filename.gif options on the GRAPH command. For example:

graph consume year / device=gif output=my.gif

Q8: How do I include the SHAZAM directory in the path with the Windows operating system?

First locate the System icon under the Control Panel. Then go to Advanced. From here, go to the Environment Variables and then Edit Path under user variables, or under system variables if you have Administrator access wish the path to be included for all users who login to the computer.

When editing, be sure not to delete any of the current paths. All you need to do is add eg.

;c:\shazam

at the end of the path.

Q9: Where are the SHAZAM Command and Data files included with my software purchase?

The SHAZAM Command and Data files are installed along with SHAZAM. Once installed please navigate to the SHAZAM installation folder and you will find the \Textbook and \Examples subfolders contain these files.
